What issues should be noted when using a flat round knife

Sources: | PublishDate:2025.01.01

Flat mouth round knife is a relatively sharp tool, and special attention should be paid to safety when using it. The following are relevant precautions:
1. Preparation before operation
Choose the appropriate tool: Select the matching tool holder, tool handle, and cutting machine according to the size of the round knife and the specifications of the handle. The installation must be firm to avoid tool loosening or falling off during operation, which may cause dangerous situations. For example, when installing a flat edged circular cutter on a CNC milling machine, it is necessary to calibrate the clamping position and force correctly.
Check the condition of the cutting tool: Carefully inspect the blade before use. If there are any gaps, uneven wear, or broken edges, they must not be used interchangeably. They should be promptly polished, repaired, or replaced with new tools to avoid affecting machining accuracy and safety, and causing the workpiece to be scrapped.
Personal protection in place: Wear cutting resistant gloves, goggles, work clothes, and other protective equipment to prevent debris from cutting from splashing and injuring the eyes, hands, and other body parts.
2. Key points of usage process
Reasonable parameter setting: Based on the hardness, thickness, and other characteristics of the processed material, correctly set the speed and feed rate of the machine tool. For example, when cutting alloy steel with high hardness, the speed should not be too high and the feed rate should be moderate, otherwise it is easy to cause excessive wear and even breakage of the cutting tool.
Correct cutting method: Maintain a uniform and smooth cutting process, without sudden changes in speed, pause or direction, to prevent damage to the blade due to uneven force and ensure the flatness and accuracy of the machining surface.
Avoid overload operation: Do not force cutting beyond the bearing capacity of the tool itself. If abnormal vibration or excessive resistance occurs during machining, stop the machine immediately for inspection to prevent the tool from collapsing due to overload and causing safety accidents.
Cooling and lubrication guarantee: Timely use of coolant or lubricant during cutting can not only cool down the tool, but also reduce the friction between the blade and the workpiece, prolong the tool life, and improve the quality of the machined surface. Like milling aluminum parts, sufficient emulsion cooling can prevent tool sticking.
3. Maintenance after use
Timely cleaning: After use, clean the chips and oil stains attached to the cutting tools as soon as possible, wipe them with specialized tool cleaning agents, maintain the cleanliness of the blade, and avoid residual impurities from corroding the blade.
Proper storage: Store the cleaned flat edged round knife in a dry, ventilated, and out of reach tool holder for children. The cutting edge can be coated with anti rust oil and separated from other tools to prevent collision and damage to the cutting edge.
Regular maintenance: Professional grinding and maintenance of cutting tools should be carried out regularly to maintain the sharpness of the blade. Grinding should be carried out by professionals using appropriate grinding equipment.
